QODA was appointed by Purcell to provide a full condition survey of the mechanical, electrical, and public health systems within the Cyfarthfa Castle, Merthyr Tydfil, that will aid a greater understanding of the requirements of the much wider heritage asset. Cyfarthfa Castle is a Grade I listed building situated within 65 hectares of historic landscape and forms part of Greater Cyfarthfa Park. The castle hosts a spectacular museum and gallery, formal gardens, a lake, a children’s play area and a model railway.

The scope of work included a thorough review of all building services with recommendations to identify both medium to long term works and an emergency works package that would assist in preventing deterioration of the building fabric. Further attention was given to any items that may have historic significance so whether they still function or not, they will need to be salvaged from the site or maintained in situ.
