The Courts, Bridewell

QODA have been appointed as MEP Consultants for the redevelopment of the Grade II-listed Old Magistrates courts, located on Bridwell ‘island’ in Bristol. The project is looking to bring this vacant building back into active use as a hub for the creative, cultural, and technology industries, hosting small and medium-sized organisations, and creative entrepreneurs.

QODA have worked closely with the Creative Youth Network, and their Youth Steering Committee, to assist in the design to ensure the space is fit for purpose as a muti-use creative hub for Bristol supporting a range of activities from dance through to conferencing.

“Tobin tubes” have been used to provide fresh air. The “sunburner” would have previously provided ventilation by burning fossil fuels to draw air in through the tobin tube, which will now instead be assisted by modern but sensitively designed systems – keeping the ornate services in place with refurbishment where necessary.
