A warm welcome to our new starters Toman Goodman who has joined our Bristol office and Hugo Courtney who has joined our London office. Tomas studied Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems at University of Nottingham and has joined as a Graduate Electrical Engineer. Hugo has joined as a Mechanical Engineer and has a MSc in Mechanical Engineering where he covered a wide range of topics including thermodynamics and material composition.

Our Technical Director Dr Sarah Price has worked with James Livingstone to author the Solid Floor Insulation - Guide to Best Practice. The aim of the guide is to provide clear reference for designers, surveyors, and installers considering the suitability of solid floors to receive internal thermal upgrades. A huge congratulations to Daniel Harrison who’s application for CIBSE Membership and CEng registration has been successful. Daniel joined QODA as a graduate engineer and through his hard work and dedication to achieve excellent results for his clients and projects has become a senior engineer. He has worked on many of our award winning and landmark projects, creating great client relationships, and providing best practise standards and training to his colleagues here at QODA. This is a well deserved and very fitting reward for his efforts.
RICS Heritage Award Winner

We’re delighted to hear the Cliveden Conservatory Café has won the RICS Award in the South East Heritage Category. QODA provided the MEP services design for the Grade I listed building. The project faced many challenges due to the Listed status of the building and overheating. QODA produced a thermal comfort assessment, introduced automatic opening roof lights, external louvres, active cooling, and a one beam smoke detector to suit the building. A huge thank you to the Church Commissioners for the appointment to act as their sustainability technical advisor to support the working group and for inviting QODA to hear the announcement made at the National Cathedrals Conference today. The Church Commissioners announced that a £190 million fund is to be made available to achieve their aim of net zero carbon by 2030. This will be made available through the Church Commissioners Distribution Framework.

QODA were delighted to sponsor The Cargonauts at the IET First 'Lego' League World Championships Final which introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16 through fun, exciting, hands-on learning. We are delighted that The Hide has received the Design Excellence Award at the annual Berkhamsted Citizens’ Association Environment Awards. QODA were appointed as M&E Consultants for full MEP and sustainability design duties for the private residence located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A dedicated chimney was designed to provide combustion air and exhaust the products of combustion. A huge congratulations to Dushyant Karnik who has passed his AECB CarbonLite Retrofit training course, which enables him to certify robust, low energy building retrofit projects. Dushyant is part of the wider building physics team at QODA and is a Certified Passivhaus Designer. He has a special interest in low energy building design and construction innovation, with experience across multiple sectors within the UK and India.

After nearly 18 months since we started our nine-day fortnight / flexible working scheme, we reflect on how it’s working, why it was implemented in the first place, and what our staff have to say.
