Overheating in domestic buildings: new guidelines cool things down
With the changing climate and better building insulation, UK homes increasingly overheat in the summer. The new CIBSE TM59 methodology gives building designers the tools to minimise or even avoid overheating from concept design stage onwards, using future-proofed weather data for robust performance.
These tools not only allow the optimising of the building design through simulation, but also a standardised approach that can be referenced against other buildings meaningfully. Avoiding scenarios in which overheating is likely also side-steps hidden costs (like retro-fitting cooling systems), and ultimately makes buildings more comfortable for the people who live in them.
