Working on prestigious conservation projects, every pipe and wire has to be planned with meticulous detail.
Our work in this sector includes everything from designing the intricate building services alterations (for Historic Royal Palaces) to a multi-dimensional project for the National Trust at Knole in Kent.
At Knole, we were originally appointed as engineering consultants for the purpose-designed conservation studios and a new café building, but our commission was extended to take in the refurbishment of the main show rooms. This included installing systems to control the internal environment to protect the building fabric and the irreplaceable objects found within.

QODA supported the Trust to transform Sherborne House into an accessible events and art exhibition venue. Featuring a café and restaurant, the building boasts an additional flexible office, artists' studio, and workshop space whilst the addition of a contemporary multifunction rear extension is also in progress. The Trust's restoration will provide Sherborne with an excellent arts facility, and it will also secure the long-term financial viability of the house.
“Working in a historic environment requires care and attention to detail. QODA have always taken the time and trouble to research a problem and provide sensitive and appropriate solutions.”
