His role is characterised by a youthful enthusiasm and passion for innovation, ensuring high standards are met with a high-quality output.

Kirk Schartau   |   Director

Kirk has over 30 years of experience in the design and consultancy industry. He is responsible for all professional services and day-to-day operations of the business, including strategic direction, design advice and oversight, business planning and development, and technical solutions and implementation. He works closely with clients and provides leadership to the wider QODA team.

Tom Cardy   |   Director

Tom is Director of the Cambridge office and has over 12 years of experience delivering projects across a number of sectors, ensuring a high standard is met with client and design team engagement alongside a high quality of output. He enjoys utilising his technical knowledge to overcome challenges by realising client aspirations, passing on his knowledge, and developing others.

Susan Hone-Brookes   |   Director of Sustainability

Susan is experienced at leading sustainability teams and key accounts, offering strategic sustainability advice, creating bespoke ‘sustainability tool kits’ for clients, and creating companywide strategies for ESG development. She is knowledgeable in circular economy principles and has worked on many leading commercial developments seeking planning under the London Plan principles. Furthermore, she is a qualified NABERS assessor and has worked in of energy monitoring and analysis for several years, creating comprehensive energy and carbon solutions for large acute hospital and school designs. Susan previously spent six years on the board of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) as Vice President, where she took a lead role in updating the institution’s Sustainability Guide L:2020. She supports the Technology Group and ongoing board group work. Susan was on the steering group which helped formulate the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors ‘Whole life carbon assessment for the Built Environment’. She also led the Infrastructure Industry Innovation Partnership (i3P), which successfully developed a technology roadmap for the construction industry, which was a key part of securing the UK’s first ‘Construction Sector Deal’. Additionally, Susan was Chief Engineer for the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), advising government, industry, and academic institutions on transforming and adopting new technologies.

James Parrott   |   Associate Director

James has over 18 years’ experience of delivering MEP projects from initial client liaison through to commissioning and handover. He has worked with a variety of clients in the public and private sectors in the UK and internationally in Australia & New Zealand.

David Clark   |   Director

David is the Director of the Peterborough office and leads the MEP team. David has over 30 years of experience in contracting and consultancy. His experience covers early design concepts through to contractor working documents. David aims to provide excellent client service and responses along high quality, environmentally aware, practical, and added value designs.

Panos Ferentinos   |   Associate

As an Associate Lighting Designer, Panos is responsible for liaising with clients to liaison lead the formulation of creative conceptual ideas, maintaining close contact throughout the detail design and construction stages. Panos has over 15 years’ experience working in the UK, Europe, Asia, and the US. He has worked on a varied portfolio of project including projects within listed buildings, private residences, restaurants, commercial retail outlets, hotels, museums, and public spaces.

John Coley   |   Associate Director

John believes that a culture of honest communication, collaboration, and an enthusiastic attitude to problem-solving is key to success. He appreciates the daily challenges of building services engineering and takes great satisfaction in delivering elegant, intelligent, and valuable designs for his clients.

Katie Clemence-Jackson   |   Associate

Katie is experienced in M&E design and sustainability consultancy, and is focussed on planning and delivering sustainable outcomes for built environment projects. She is passionate about decarbonising the built environment and developing net zero carbon designs and strategies.

Her view is that the most sustainable projects can demonstrate their sustainability in-use. She thinks holistically to develop strategies that are unique to the client and project requirements, and provide tangible benefits for building users, society, and the planet.

Katie applies a people-focussed approach to projects. She enjoys getting to know clients and their organisations, using this understanding to provide tailored support. She is a keen communicator and will work to ensure project teams are well-informed about the project strategy and wider sustainability themes.

In her role as Chair of CIBSE’s Technology Committee, Katie engages with emerging industry policies and can help clients navigate through a changing policy landscape.

Katie acts as the technical project managed for the UK Net Zero Carbon (NZC) Buildings Standard. In this role she liaises with industry experts to facilitate the development of industry-wide NZC targets, and manages delivery of the standard.

Matt Sealby   |   Director

Matt brings a proven ability to lead a team including Engineers and Specialists, ensuring liaison across the team to deliver schemes from a standing start to successful completion. With his proactive and innovative approach, Matt ensures a coordinated and integrated synergy that delivers high-quality designs.

Rory Walsh   |   Director

Rory has over 35 years' experience within building services. His open communication style, pragmatic approach, and insight, combine with an outstanding track record of successful delivery.

Chris Maloney   |   Associate

Chris is a passionate mechanical engineer with a drive to ensure things work as they should, with over 35 years contracting and design experience across a wide range of Mechanical and Public Health services.

James Stubbings   |   Director

James is responsible for the entire lifecycle of a project from early conception stages to project completion and post-handover. James has over 16 years of experience in MEP consultancy with a keen understanding of sustainability principles, commercial awareness, dFMA, detailed design, building commissioning, and operation.

James Botwood   |   Director

James is the Director of the Norwich office and leads the MEP team. James has over 18 years of experience in contracting and consultancy. With a proven track record of building and leading engineering teams, James aims to provide QODA’s clients with innovation, quality, and responsiveness from an experienced, professional, and friendly team. 

Kevin Shelley   |   Associate

Kevin has 30 years’ experience in the construction industry working on diverse projects in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Having worked at all levels and stages of construction projects, Kevin fully understands the activities associated with complex building services and infrastructure installations.

Andrew Fisher   |   Associate Director

Andrew has over 15 years’ experience working with national Contractors and Architects on numerous large-scale developments providing strategic sustainability and energy consultancy. He adopts a hands-on approach, supporting projects from conception, through construction to occupation. This includes working with suppliers, contractors, clients, and manufacturers to develop products and processes to achieve whole scheme solutions. Andrew also delivers formal training on both the Passivhaus Certified Tradesperson and Certified Designer courses.

Sarah Price   |   Technical Director

As an Technical Director Sarah has over a decade of experience in the construction industry and specialises in Passivhaus, sustainability, low energy buildings, and retrofit. Sarah has worked on over 90 certified Passivhaus dwellings across the country including the first Passivhaus leisure centre, and the construction stage of the largest Passivhaus development in the UK. She has worked with Decarbonsiation Fund projects, and with many clients helping them meet their climate emergency targets, and delivering a route to zero carbon.

She is a Chartered Engineer, an AECB expert advisor, and AECB Carbonlite Retrofit Assessor, and a member of the Retrofit Steering Task Group set up after the Each Home Counts review. Sarah also has a RICS Certificate in Construction Project Management and is BSRIA Soft Landings Framework Trained.

Sarah is the technical author for PAS 2035:2019 and PAS 2030 retrofit standard amendments (2021), and the lead technical author for the BEIS Retrofit IWI guide, published (2021). She was the co-author for the Passivhaus Trust’s Technical Guidance on Airtightness (2020) and the technical author for the retrofit standard (2020).

Dushyant Karnik   |   Associate

As an Associate, Dushyant has a special interest in low energy building design and construction innovation, with experience across multiple sectors within the UK and India. With a strong background in architecture, renewable building services, and building physics, he has worked on several low energy and Passivhaus schemes across the UK. Dushyant believes in designing using the fabric first approach to deliver net zero developments while maintaining a balance between energy reduction, occupant comfort, and wellbeing. He specializes in decarbonisation of historic listed buildings and delivering sustainability strategies for new builds. He is also a certified Passivhaus designer and is part of the Passivhaus Trust’s “Cost of EnerPHit” technical working group. He is an AECB Building Standard and Retrofit Certifier. He also sits on the Barking and Dagenham Council’s Quality Review Panel, which provides independent, objective, expert advice on development proposals across the borough.

Martin Bryan   |   Associate Director

Working for both small and large consultancies in the past, Martin has a wide range of projects to draw experience from. He likes to maintains good team relationships with a collaborative approach and clear communication.

Sam Flanagan   |   Associate

Sam has 16 years’ experience in Mechanical Services Design and Coordination and has been involved at all areas of the discipline from concept design through to handover. His approach focuses on collaboration, and he seeks to encourages conversation and coordination at an early stage, maintaining communication throughout the design process.

Ubaka Attah   |   Associate

As an Associate with 10 + years' experience, Ubaka is responsible for the Project management and the design and specification of services from concept to completion, helping ensure delivery of the scheme to meet the Client's brief and expectations.

Simon Dove   |   Technical Director

Simon Dove has been working with light for his entire 30-year career. He’s worked across many sectors on designs large and small but, with any project, feels a collaborative approach is essential for a fruitful outcome.

He believes lighting design should have people at its core – allowing them to perform tasks, and explore and navigate safely. To enjoy their environment and control unwanted light. That we should constantly explore new ideas and technologies to deliver creative design solutions, but not discard established concepts.

Stuart Mulraney   |   Associate

Stuart's role focusses on leading and overseeing the strategic planning, execution, and management of the organisation's technology development initiatives.

Matthew Edwards   |   Associate

Matthew is responsible for leading the design of various projects from inception to completion, helping to ensure delivery of the scheme to meet with the clients brief and expectations, while delivering the best possible outcome for the end user. Matthew has particular interest in promoting the adoption and application of innovative low carbon technologies to ensure the built environment is fulfilling its obligations in response to the climate emergency.
