Our selection of case studies showcase a cross section of recent QODA projects.

We are an energetic and enthusiastic Design Engineering Consultancy led by highly experienced and talented engineers, working across mechanical, electrical and sustainable areas of building design. To find out more about what we do, check out our case studies below.

Case Study

Confidential CL3 Facility

QODA were appointed by a world leading University to complete the design of their tropical medicine CL3 suite. The project was successfully completed in December 2017 and achieved a highly sealed containment environment.

Case Study

Confidential Clean Room

QODA are currently working on a clinical biomanufacturing facility for a world leading University. The project involved the construction of EU GGMP Grade B Grade C facilities and requires the existing cleanrooms to remain live at all times.

Case Study

NQCC Enabling Works

QODA are currently completing a number of projects at STFC (Science and Technologies Facilities Council) related to the NQCC (National Quantum Computing Centre) project. Our team have been engaged to complete works on buildings R12, R9, R65, and R8.

Case Study

Therapy Acceleration Laboratory, WIMM, University of Oxford

QODA have been appointed by the University of Oxford to complete the fitout of the Therapy Acceleration Laboratory at WIMM (Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine) within the JR Hospital in Oxford. The facility necessitates the construction of CL2 laboratories and associated write up spaces, tissue culture laboratories, and dedicated cold rooms. Ducted VAV fume cupboards, purified water systems, and laboratory gases are all necessary to facilitate the science.

Case Study

Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford

5QODA are working with the University of Oxford at the Nuffield Department of Medicine to re-purpose the existing basement in their Old Road Campus building from office space into general laboratories and to create a new Chemical-Biology lab on the first floor. The scheme consists of general postgraduate write-up areas, general CL1 laboratories and more specialist CL2 laboratories with cold rooms and dedicated research equipment. The chemical-biology lab consists of a specialist research area with 12 No.5 new VAV fume-cupboards. The scheme is being carried out under a phased approach with the labs being constructed whist the building remains in full occupation.

Case Study

Health Sciences Building, University of Southampton

QODA have been appointed to complete the design of the engineering services for the refurbishment of the University of Southampton Health Sciences Building. This will include the internal refurbishment of a four-storey University building to accommodate the relocation of the School of Health Sciences. This project has involved the design of above and below ground drainage, air conditioning, controls, chilled water, domestic hot and cold water, gas, heating, medical gases, and ventilation systems. The ten existing ventilation systems have been modified and the project includes two new AHUs, a new chiller, and condensers to provide heating and cooling via DX coils to all ventilation plant.

Case Study

i-SEC Building, Harwell Campus

Five UK Universities (Open, Coventry, Strathclyde, Sheffield, and Bristol) in partnership with the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) appointed QODA to complete the MEP and sustainability design of the International Stress Engineering Centre (i-SEC) located on the Harwell Campus.

I-SEC will offer multi-sector industries and academia access to unique residual stress management capabilities and deliver transformative research and training. In addition, I-SEC will deliver the benefits of collaborative access to the ISI Neutron and Muon Source, the Central Laser Facility, the Diamond Light Source, and the Research Complex which are also located at Harwell.

Case Study

Project Zeus, Harwell Campus

QODA have been appointed as M&E consultants for Project Zeus on the Harwell Campus. Harwell Campus is a Research and Technology Campus in Oxfordshire and is home to organisations, institutions, and businesses shaping the world of today and tomorrow. It is well established as one of the leading science and innovation campuses in Europe. Project Zeus is planned as new speculative multi-occupier, multi-use building to provide accommodation to various tenants incorporating different science & research technologies.
