University of the West of England (UWE) SAP3
QODA have been appointed as part of the design team lead by architects Stride Treglown, for the UWE SAP3 project which consists of the development of a new 2000 bedroom student accommodation scheme. We have been appointed primarily as the Passivhaus and sustainability consultants on the project, having previously worked with the university to produce a sustainability design guide helping to address their 2030 zero carbon targets. QODA are also appointed for MEP duties which are being carried out as part of a joint venture between ourselves and another consultant.
One of the key drivers we are working on is the requirement for the project to meet Passivhaus standards, as well as looking forward to how the project can help facilitate the ability for the university to achieve its end goal of being zero carbon by 2030. The project is also being carried out to full BIM level 2 requirements.
St Edburg’s Church of England Primary School
QODA were appointed for the Mechanical, Electrical, and Sustainability design duties at St Edburg’s Church of England Primary School in Bicester. The new building is situated within the Kingsmere mixed-use development site and enabled the relocation and expansion of the existing school. The school accommodates 450 pupils aged 3-11 in 14 classes and has been designed for open and interactive learning. Close consultation was undertaken with the Architect, Acanthus Clews to develop an advanced natural ventilation strategy utilising a central core and façade openings. The design, validated through dynamic modelling, also addressed high occupancy levels and challenging services distribution.
Goodhart Building, University College, Oxford
QODA were appointed by University College to design new building services within the Goodhart Building. Particular consideration was given to energy efficiency and renewable energy generation. Dynamic modelling was undertaken to validate the type and extent of improvements proposed including an analysis of supplementary insulation and revised fabric detailing.
QODA were appointed through a National Framework to provide mechanical, electrical and sustainability services for a new college in Kent. The college includes workshops, multipurpose lecture theatre, teaching spaces and resource areas.
St Hilda’s College, Phase 2
QODA are appointed as M&E and Passivhaus consultants for two new student accommodation buildings totalling 80 bedrooms, and a new private residence. Through QODA’s leadership, the scheme is pursuing high levels of sustainability including the use of CLT construction and the Passivhaus standard.
The Rookery School
QODA were appointed as part of the team designing the new dining room extension and link corridor known as the ‘Birds Nest’. We worked with BPN Architects to achieve a low impact services strategy and imaginative use of lighting to emphasise key building features.
