Old Walled Gardens – Private Development

The project needed to comply with Paragraph 55 of the National Planning Policy Document by showing exceptional quality or innovative design. We worked with the client and design team to creatively combine a variety of different technical solutions. These included a comprehensive solar strategy (winter gains/summer shading), an ETFE roof structure, a solar thermal array with in-ground storage, ground coupled earth tubes and photovoltaics. Each of these technologies had to be carefully researched and then combined to create a uniquely innovative solution that is inherently sustainable resulting in a minimal carbon footprint.
