Overview
QODA was initially appointed to support the design team in developing a new Learning and Research Centre at Culford School, a coeducational day and boarding school for pupils aged 1–18, set within conservation parkland in Suffolk. At the heart of the school grounds lies the Grade II listed Culford Hall*, which forms a key part of the estate’s historic and architectural character.
Project vision
The aim was to create a modern, flexible learning environment that enhances the academic core of the school while respecting its heritage setting. This project marked the beginning of a long-term partnership between QODA and Culford School, focused on futureproofing the estate through sustainable, integrated engineering solutions.
Key features
New Learning & Research Centre:
Designed to provide a state-of-the-art academic hub with adaptable spaces for teaching and study.
Heritage Sensitivity:
All works carefully coordinated to protect the historic character of Culford Hall and surrounding parkland.
Sustainability Focus:
Strategies to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational carbon across the estate.
QODA’s role
QODA delivered MEP design for the new Learning and Research Centre at Culford School, ensuring modern, efficient systems were integrated into the academic heart of the estate. Beyond this, we provided strategic and technical advice across a range of infrastructure upgrades, including boiler room refurbishments, electrical improvements, and energy efficiency enhancements.
Our team also supported the development of an estate-wide maintenance and sustainability strategy, helping to ensure long-term resilience and alignment with the school’s heritage setting.
Impact
Our holistic approach ensures that improvements across the estate are well-integrated, future-proofed, and sensitive to heritage constraints. The new Learning and Research Centre will provide a strong sense of place at the academic heart of the school, while ongoing infrastructure upgrades support operational efficiency and sustainability goals.
