Purdown View: UWE’s 900-Bed Accommodation Achieves Certification as The UK’s Largest Passivhaus Development.
QODA is proud to share that the University of the West of England’s (UWE) Purdown View has achieved Passivhaus certification. This development is now one of the largest Certified Passivhaus projects in Europe. This 900-bed student accommodation is a testament to energy efficiency and comfort. We’re delighted to have provided Passivhaus Consultancy, Soft Landings, and MEP support to this ambitious scheme, developed to support UWE’s Net Zero Carbon ambitions. This project is a vital step on their journey to sustainability, minimising energy costs associated with operation and enhancing student comfort.
By implementing the Passivhaus design philosophy from an early stage, we collaborated with architects Stride Treglown to create a smart, passive façade that optimises daylight and natural ventilation benefits while reducing solar gains. The highly insulated building fabric reduces winter space heating demands to less than 15 kWh/m2 and eliminates the need for energy-intensive active cooling systems in the summer.
